Please help support Joey’s Ride and Goal

Dear Colleagues,

This Sunday, May 6th, Joey Benfante, a member of the HeartShare community, will be riding in the Five Boro Bike Tour with HeartShare’s 2018 Bike Team!

Joey lives in our Attardi Residence and through our Community Habilitation Program, learned to ride a bike thanks to the commitment of his DSP. While he started locally learning safety and skills in Dyker Heights, he then started riding everywhere from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Long Beach Boardwalk! Joey was featured in our 2017 Annual Report and his goal was to ride in the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour. As we do in all of our programs, we are helping Joey reach his potential and fulfill his dreams.

I invite all of you to support Joey’s efforts and this tremendous accomplishment. While his goal is to raise $1,500, we can far exceed that. If even half of our staff members contribute $10 – Joey can raise over $10,000!

You can learn about Joey’s efforts and make a donation in support of his journey here:

Every gift counts and your support makes a difference. Go Joey!!

How You Can Participate | World Autism Awareness Day

April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day, and people are wearing the color blue to raise awareness for the developmental disorder.

World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized event when the United Nations reaffirms its “commitment to promote the full participation of all people with autism, and ensure they have the necessary support to be able to exercise their rights and fundamental freedoms.”

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects about 1% of the world’s population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This year’s World Autism Awareness Day is focused on supporting women and girls who have been diagnosed with the condition.

April is also Autism Awareness Month.

More than 3.5 million Americans fall somewhere on the autism spectrum, according to the Autism Society of America; about 1 in 68 children in the U.S. are identified as having ASD, according to the CDC.
